You are eligible to vote as a non-resident in a ward or council area if you are:
an owner of rateable land in the ward or council area
an occupier or rate-paying lessee of rateable land in the ward or council area.
It is compulsory to vote in local government elections in Australia.
You cannot vote in person outside of New South Wales for local government elections. If you will be interstate on election day you can vote at a pre-poll centre before you leave during the early voting period or by postal vote.
